Altrusa holds program meeting at The Oaks

Altrusa International of Mexico, Missouri, Inc. met on March 27 at noon at The Oaks for their program meeting. The meeting was called to order by Co-President Suzanne Pursifull followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 15 members in attendance along with one guest.

Committee reports were as follows: 

  • ASTRA will be meeting on April 13 at the Missouri Veterans Home where they will also help fill Easter eggs for their annual hunt. 
  • Literacy hosted their English Language Learners movie day on March 15. They had approximately 30 children along with their families who participated. Special thanks to the cinema for the movie, soda and popcorn. All of the children received a book when they left. 
  • Hospitality hosted a wonderful birthday party on March 13 at Mr. Murphy’s. 
  • Ways and Means is planning a breakfast fundraiser on April 12 from 7:30 – 10 a.m. at St. Brendan’s Gymnasium. Cost is $10 per person. They will have breakfast casserole, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice. All awards have been submitted for the District Conference. 
  • Membership had a great turnout for their membership event at The Pearl Martini & Wine Bar. Six prospective members were in attendance. 
  • Scholarship application deadline has passed. The committee will soon meet to pick two winners for our $2,500 scholarships. 
  • Nominating committee is working on the slate of officers for 2025-2026. 
  • Special Events is planning a bourbon tasting event on April 22 at Jason’s Top Shelf.

Carla Tanzey presented a PowerPoint of her and her husband’s recent trip to Antarctica. They spent time in Buenos Aires where they joined their tour group for a flight to Ushuaua. They rode zodiac boats to tour different areas where they saw different varieties of penguins and seals and beautiful ice formations. It was summer there and they had 24 hours of daylight.

Members recited the benediction to close the meeting.
