In new business, Penny Daugherty is on the Altrusa International slate of officers for the 2027-2029 biennium as president-elect.
Kaye Bigelow introduced Jennifer Rice, treasurer of the Central Missouri Veterans Monument Foundation. Rice spoke on the new veteran’s monument that is being constructed in Mexico at the corner of Huntingfield and Teal Lake. This was started as a simple question from a member of the VFW Post 3772. The question asked was, “Do you think we need a place in Mexico to honor and celebrate our Veterans?”
Two years later, the answer to this question will be dedicated on Veterans Day. The VFW has been busy having fundraisers such as Bingo and Chili Cook Off’s. Many local companies have donated work for the site and the VFW post 3772 donated the granite. The memorial will have a 6-foot monument for each branch of service. The center is an arch with a folded flag.
The public is invited for the ribbon cutting service on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. There will be speakers and a military service with a wreath laying. This site will also be used for future memorial services for veterans.
Members gave Happy Moments and recited the benediction to close the meeting.
