Audrain County voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 4 for the primary election.

This year’s ballot features a number of Audrain County incumbents who will be running unopposed, but there are still a number of contested races and amendments to be decided.

Audrain County Clerk Lisa Smith said there has been a steady flow of voters since no excuse absentee voting began on July 21, and she expects a total turnout between 23-25%.

The clerk’s office will be open on Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon for absentee voting. In-person absentee voting will end Aug. 3 at 5 p.m.

Polls will open Tuesday at 6 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

Contested Races

There are no incumbents in the races for county clerk and treasurer. The race for county clerk is between Stacey Higbee, Brandie Gay and Heather Lierheimer while Tiffnay Burts will face Lisa Smith in the race for treasurer.

Three Republican candidates, Dusty Blue, of Mexico; Ed Lewis, of Moberly; and Greg Sharpe, of Ewing, are seeking Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin’s term-limited seat in the Missouri Senate in the 18th District. The Democratic candidates in that race are two Audrain County residents — Nick Miller, of Mexico, and John Leykamp, of Centralia.

There is also a race for state auditor. Incumbent Scott Fitzpatrick will face challenger Gerald (Jerry) Wistrand Jr. on the Republican ticket.

Two Republicans, John G. Fraser and Bob Onder, are vying for U.S. Representative in District 3. The Democratic candidates in this race are Bethany E. Mann, Paul T. Wilson and Tommy Holstein.

A seat for Salt River Township committeewoman is sought by Meagan Miller and Jennifer Gore.

One seat for Salt River Rural Township committeeman is also available. The race is between candidates Dusty Blue and Ryan Nowlin.

Chris Williams and John Cauthorn will face off in the race for South Fork Township committeeman.
