The Mexico City Council may or may not have a new look next spring depending on what the two incumbents decide to do.
Mayor Vicki Briggs and Councilman Chris Miller will have their terms expire next April. The council, minus Councilman Larry Webber who was absent, unanimously approved the bill to establish the election that will be held April 2, 2024. The two seats up for election will be for three year terms.
Briggs was asked if she planned to file for reelection and said she was still thinking about it. Miller said he was going to, “Wait and see.” Miller said he wants to see if anyone files for his seat and may run again if no one or the right person doesn’t file.
City Clerk Marci LeCount’s office will accept statements of candidacy beginning Tuesday, Dec. 5 and filings will close at the end of business on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
