Bulldog bats limited vs Castle, Lafayette in 6-2 loss

Posted

Mexico was right back at the ballpark after a long night.

After losing a three and half hour game on their field to Centralia, the Bulldogs lost a 6-2 game to Lafayette (St. Joseph) that started at 1 p.m. on Good Friday. Mexico's home losing streak extends to six games after winning its home opener earlier in the season while Lafayette's winning streak moves to five games after losing its first 11 games of the season. Mexico (11-9) finished with six hits -- compared to Lafayette's five -- against Eli Castle (six strikeouts, four hits, three walks and one earned run in six innings and 2-for-3 with two RBI at plate), but its pitchers countered with eight walks between two arms. Five of the walks occurred in the fifth inning, and Lafayette (5-11) took advantage by scoring three runs and increasing its lead to 5-0. Austin Maxwell went 2-for-4 with a RBI double in the fifth inning, and Jaydon Eldridge had a RBI groundout in the same inning for Mexico's only runs.

Mexico (1-4) hosts North Central Missouri Conference foe Hannibal (7-10, 2-3 NCMC) at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Bulldogs lost 3-1 at Hannibal earlier this season.
