Mexico did it not once but twice in one week.
The Bulldogs beat North Central Missouri Conference and district rival Moberly 9-3 on the Spartans' Senior Night on Tuesday and then defeated Class 4 No. 2 Moberly 8-4 in eight innings on Friday night in Mexico by scoring eight unanswered runs with two outs. They defeated Moberly after beating conference rival and Class 4 No. 5 Fulton 10-0 earlier in the day to finish pool play 3-0 in the Southern Boone Classic tournament. Mexico will play Fatima (14-11), who defeated Class 4 No. 7 Southern Boone 1-0 in eight innings on Friday at Southern Boone, for the championship at 12:30 p.m. today at Southern Boone.
Against Fulton in the early afternoon, Landon Hilderman, Jaydon Eldridge and Chance McCarty each finished with two RBIs to support six complete innings of six strikeouts, two hits and one walk from Austin Maxwell.
Hilderman had the game-tying and game-winning RBIs against Moberly in the evening to finish 2-for-3 with two RBIs. After Hilderman's RBI hit in the eight inning, Kaden Benne followed with a two-RBI double to finish 2-for-4 with two RBIs. In the fifth inning, Brayden Arnold had a RBI single, and Sam Ryan followed with a two-RBI single. Ryan pitched the final four innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
