Bulldogs close regular season on 11-0 walk-off win

After 10 innings with just one run, Mexico was able to pile it on Battle on Friday at home.

The Bulldogs lost 4-1 to Class 5 Capital City, who received votes in the final regular season state polls, mustering three hits against Blake Holtmeyer in a 2 p.m. game but defeated Class 6 Battle 11-0 in six innings in a 5 p.m. game. Mexico tallied 11 hits and walked off a seven-run sixth inning with a two-RBI double by lone senior Ashton Belcher.

Holtmeyer struck out 11 for Capital City (21-11), and then Mexico (15-16) didn't have any runs against Battle (8-23) in the first three innings. The Nos. 1-4 hitters -- Brady Fox, Drew DeMint, Jaydon Eldridge and Sam Ryan -- each had two hits. DeMint led the team with three RBI, and Austin Maxwell and Belcher each followed with two RBI.

Sam Ryan and Kaden Benne combined to allow two hits against Battle, with Ryan striking out four in 4 1/3 innings and Benne fanning four in 1 2/3 innings. Maxwell allowed three runs on three hits in four innings against Capital City while Eldridge allowed an unearned run on one hit in three innings.

Mexico faces fourth-ranked Father Tolton (19-8) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Class 4 District 8 tournament at Southern Boone in Ashland.
