Mexico gave No. 1 Vashon a scare on Saturday night on Gary Filbert Court.

In the first time in three quarterfinal meetings in four years between five-time reigning state champion Vashon and Mexico, the Bulldogs hosted the highly anticipated game and lost for the third time 64-54 in front of a packed Mexico gym. Vashon (25-2) extended its winning streak to 13 (lost 68-54 on Jan. 19 to Illinois' DePaul College Prep, who won a state title on the same night) but couldn't move its streak of 20+ point wins past seven as Mexico (23-7) put up its best fight against Vashon after losing in the past by 25 and then 36 last year. Mexico cut Vashon's lead to 45-43 in the fourth quarter before a run made it 54-44 Vashon. Jaydon Eldridge led Mexico in his final game as a Bulldog with 20 points and seven rebounds, PJ Perkins had 12 points and nine rebounds in his final game, and Charlie Fisher finished with 12 points. Terron Garrett led Vashon with 18 points and 13 rebounds, Trey Williams Jr. finished with 18 points and three 3-pointers, and Dorea McCaskill had 10 points and six rebounds.
