Mexico couldn't prevent a nine-game losing streak to North Central Missouri Conference foe Hannibal on Friday night but was in position to.

The Bulldogs led the state No. 5 Pirates three times during a Class 4 District 5 semifinal game in Hannibal but ultimately lost 42-27. Hannibal (8-3) had two 100-yard rushers in Landyn Essig (119) and Darion Washington (110 yards) that helped the Pirates outscored Mexico 20-6 in the second half after owning the halftime lead 22-21. Hunter Cuno barreled through the Pirates to lead Mexico (5-6) with 220 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries in the senior's final game. Korbyn Dorsey followed with 51 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Hannibal turned two Mexico turnovers into touchdowns.
