No life-threatening injuries occurred after a North Callaway R-I School District bus crashed this morning in Audrain County, according to a North Callaway news release.
The release stated that Bus 31 was involved in an accident, which a Missouri State Highway Patrol report said happened at County Road 845 and County Road 852. A social media post from MSHP said eight students were on board, and MSHP reported to the Ledger later that five students and one adult were sent to University Hospital. The MSHP crash report said the students ranged in age from 9 to 17. The driver of the other vehicle was the adult taken to the hospital.
Local law enforcement, EMS and ambulance services responded immediately, along with district personnel, to provide care and service to students, the school district release stated. Emergency services personnel identified injuries at the accident site, the release stated, and while there were no life-threatening injuries, injured students were treated and transported to University Hospital. The parents of those students have been contacted.
The remaining students, cleared by emergency services, have been released to their parents. Law enforcement will conduct an investigation of the accident, the district release stated.
The MSHP report said a Ford F-150, driven by a 21-year-old Montgomery City man, began to slide and collided with the bus. The Ford came to a rest in the roadway and the bus began to slide and then overturned, coming to a rest in the roadway on its side.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of the occupants involved in injury crashes.
