Candidate filing opens for April 2025 election

Candidate filing for Audrain County residents interested in running for available seats in the April 2025 municipal election is now underway.

The next general municipal election in Audrain County will be held April 8 2025 and there are a number of local seats available. Filing opened Tuesday, Dec. 10, and will close Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Mexico School District
The Mexico School District has two three-year terms available. School Board Vice President Nicole Jahn and Director Scott Nichols have terms expiring April 2025.

Currently, no candidates have filed for this position.

Community R-VI
Terms for the Board of Education Vice President Daniel Schafer and board member Rhonda Curtis will expire in 2025, leaving two seats up for election.

Currently, no candidates have filed for this position.

Mexico City Council
City Council member Chris Williams’ term will expire April 2025 meaning there is one seat available in the upcoming election. As of Dec. 10, Williams has officially refiled and is the only name currently on the ballot.

Audrain County Health Department
Chairperson Jessica Ekern and Treasurer/Secretary Darla Eggers have terms expiring so there will be two seats available.

Ekern and Eggers have both refiled and are the only candidates on the ballot at this time.

Martinsburg Area Fire Protection District
Two six-year terms on the Martinsburg Area Fire Protection District Board will be up for election in April.
Nancy Becker and Bruce Boyes have terms expiring and neither plan to seek re-election at this time.
