The Community R-6 Trojans executed to a 7-3 victory on Wednesday at home against Class 2 Silex. Mason Carroll struck out 10 Owls as he allowed two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings while his defense turned three double plays behind him.
Pacey Cope finished with three RBI on two hits, Drake Welch had two RBI, and Brant Cope picked up two hits and an RBI.
The win against Silex is Community's first against the Owls since 2016 and the first in six tries.
“They’re always well-coached. (Silex head coach) Kent Hufty does an incredible job,” head coach Joel Krato said. “No matter the talent level, no matter what, they are always well-coached and are always tough to beat. We tried to treat this like it was the district championship game. We tried to outexecute because we knew they were going to execute.”
