The second day of the 2023 MSHSAA Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek in Columbia happened on Saturday. Centralia and North Callaway runners competed in Class 3 and Mexico had runners going in Class 4.
The Centralia boys won their first ever state trophy by finishing third with 133 points. Rohan Holiman in 11th, Dryst Bostick in 21st and Carter Moss in 26th each were all-state for the first time in their careers, and Eli Hill and Wesley Robertson added placings of 48th and 92nd. Holiman's time of 16:11 is a school boys 5K record and school boys state course record and his fourth state qualification makes him the first Centralia boy do that.
Kenedee Moss earned her first state medal after finishing 16th with a school girls state course record time of 19:28. Shelby Lewis was close to the top 30 cutoff with a 38th-place time of 20:18 to finish her fourth trip to state, making her the fifth Centralia girl to qualify for state four times.
Mexico's top finisher was returning state qualifier and sophomore Maggie Ramsey, who finished 66th with a season-best time of 20:40. For the boys, Wellsville-Middletown transfer and junior Hunter Bickell's 92nd-place time of 17:07 was a personal-best and junior Andrew Peuster's 109th-place time of 17:25 was a season-best.
North Callaway's Pressley Schmauch concluded her fourth trip to state with a 54th-place time of 20:38, which is a career-best state time.
