Lady Panthers repeat as Harrisburg champs, defeat Fayette 56-25
The Centralia girls just didn’t repeat on Saturday but cast little doubt.
The Lady Panthers defeated Fayette 56-25 in the Harrisburg tournament championship game, repeating as champion. It was Centralia’s fifth straight victory and the end of a three-game winning streak for Fayette (13-4).
Braylin Brunkhorst led Centralia (14-3), who are ranked 10th in the latest Class 4 poll, with 18 points and seven rebounds to cap a week where she averaged 16.7 points in three games. Shelby Lewis followed with nine points and 10 rebounds, and Raegan Anderson added nine points.
Lewis, Katie Carrico and Ryenn Gordon were named to the all-tournament team.
Centralia (1-0 CCC) plays at Clarence Cannon Conference foe Brookfield (6-9, 0-1 CCC) at 6 p.m. today.
Panthers win streak ends in 63-55 runner-up Harrisburg finish to Blair Oaks
The Centralia boys couldn’t follow their semifinal comeback performance.
The Panthers lost the Harrisburg tournament championship game 63-55 to Blair Oaks on Saturday after earning the spot with a 71-70 victory over rival Hallsville two days prior.
Centralia (9-8) trailed after every quarter against Hallsville and also against Blair Oaks (9-7), being behind 27-20 at halftime before falling further behind 46-34 going to the fourth quarter.
Anthony Ford led Centralia with 16 points, Travis Brooks followed with 12 points, and Cullen Bennett had seven points.
The Panthers (0-1 CCC) play at Clarence Cannon Conference foe Brookfield (6-9, 0-1 CCC) at 7:30 p.m. today.
