Centralia clinches outright CCC title with 11-1 win at Palmyra

Centralia didn’t feel like sharing on Thursday night.

For the program’s first conference title since 2017, the Lady Panthers won 11-1 in five innings at Palmyra to finish with a perfect 7-0 Clarence Cannon Conference record, besting the top ranked team in Class 2 Highland by one game in the standings. Centralia tallied 15 hits, including six doubles, in its victory against Palmyra (6-14, 3-4 CCC).

Centralia (18-8, 7-0 CCC) scored in every inning, starting with three runs in the first, to win by run-rule. Cora King picked up her first of her four RBI in the first inning and finished 4-for-4 with two doubles. Following her in offensive production was Ellie Page and Olivia Adams each with two RBI, Jade Lawson going 3-for-3 with a RBI, Tilly Fox going 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Madi Johnson finishing 2-for-3 with a double.

Kaelyn Walters struck out seven and allowed an unearned run on one hit and one walk in five innings.

On Wednesday, Centralia learned it was the No. 4 seed in the Class 3 District 4 tournament and will face conference foe Macon (16-9), who it has defeated twice this year, at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in Moberly. Before that, Centralia wraps up the regular season at 5 p.m. Monday at home against Class 2 No. 3 Bowling Green (16-5), who clinched a perfect 9-0 Eastern Missouri Conference title on Thursday.

Lady Panthers shut out 5-0 at rival Hallsville

Centralia hasn’t been shut out all that much this season.

The Lady Panthers didn’t score for the third time this season in a 5-0 loss on Tuesday at Class 3 No. 2 Hallsville, finishing with two hits and a walk against Abby Leer. Centralia was shut out previously this season by Class 3 No. 1 Fatima and Class 5 Lee Summit’s West (19-10) in the season opener.

Leer struck out nine in her seven innings pitched to counter Jaylynn Brown’s six innings with six hits, five strikeouts, five walks and three earned runs.

Tilly Fox and Cora King had hits for Centralia, and Madi Johnson drew a walk.
