Centralia softball holds off Brookfield 5-4
Centralia softball had another tight contest in the Clarence Cannon Conference on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers held on to a 5-0 lead at home against Brookfield to win 5-4, moving to 3-0 in conference after defeating now Class 2 No. 1 Highland 14-13 earlier this season. Madi Johnson made all three defensive plays in the seventh inning and Kaelyn Walters struck out 12 in seven innings to help close out the game against Brookfield (5-4, 0-3 CCC).
Walters allowed four unearned runs on four hits in a game that had four hits per team.
The Lady Panthers (8-4) scored runs on a bases-loaded walk, a sacrifice fly and a groundout. Kaylie Ensor had a RBI single in the second inning, and Kassena Ridgel went 1-for-1 with two runs, one double and one walk.
Centralia plays at conference foe Monroe City (8-2, 3-1 CCC) at 5 p.m. Monday.
Stephens medals for Centralia at Westran Invitational, Mexico, Paris competes
Tess Stephens was a big reason why the Centralia girls were among the best in the field on Tuesday.
Stephens was the medalist after shooting an 88 for the best score out of golfers sent from 18 schools at the Westran Invitational at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly. Centralia finished third with a score of 401 to finish behind Highland’s 389 and Hallsville’s 391.
Centralia’s next best score was Bailey Pace with a 100, Cami Moser followed with a 102 and Lyla Mattison had a 111.
Mexico didn’t have enough golfers for a team score, and Paris had a 499 team score to finish at the bottom. For Mexico, Alexis Henderson shot a 125, Reagan Craig had a 126 and Ella Connell had a 134. For Paris, Riley McKinney led with a 119, Gracie Henry had a 124, Maura Crusha shot a 126 and Miranda Billings had a 130.
Lady Panthers win home golf meet, Stephens earns medal
The Centralia girls had a good showing at home on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers won a quad golf meet against New Bloomfield, Hickman and Monroe City by finishing with a score of 195. Tess Stephens was the medalist after shooting a 41.
Bailey Pace had the next best Centralia score of 49, Cami Moser had a 51 and Kyla Spickert shot a 54.
New Bloomfield was second with a 212, and Hickman’s Aliyah Simmons had the next best individual score of 43.
