Centralia wrestling had its boys and girls wrestle in matches with district implications on Thursday night at home.
That wasn't the only reason the evening was special, however, as the five senior boys and three senior girls were honored for Senior Night. Seniors Ian Tuggle and Ava Ward were voted the King of the Mat and Queen of the Mat, respectively.
As for the duals, the No. 1 Panthers beat No. 2 Brookfield 47-35 after concluding the dual with two opens at 215 and 285 pounds. Waylon Adkisson and Rex Bryson each picked up pinfall victories for Centralia at 113 and 165, respectively, while Charlie Robinson won by 16-1 technical fall at 132. The No. 7 Lady Panthers lost 40-22 to No. 2 Brookfield after the Lady Bulldogs collected four pinfalls. The seniors Ward and Madie Shelton won their matches by 10-2 major decision and pinfall, respectively, while Jayci Shelton won by pinfall after bumping up to 190 pounds.
The girls have districts in Class 1 District 2 at St. Charles West in St. Louis starting Feb. 14 while the boys have districts in Class 1 District 3 at Versailles starting Feb. 22.
