Centralia’s Rex Bryson and Wyatt Adkisson each have some national gold this year along with state hardware.
Following a season of wrestling for the Class 1 third-place Panthers, the sophomore Bryson finished third at the 2024 National High School Coaches Association High School Nationals tournament in Virginia Beach, and the junior Adkisson was third at the Adidas Wrestling Nationals in Independence, each earning a bronze medal.
Bryson, who finished third at the Class 1 state meet, wrestled to a record of 71 during the three-day competition that ran April 5-7. His only loss happened via a 10-8 decision to the eventual champion. Bryson’s victories that took home all the way to a 9-7 third-place match victory came via four first-period pinfalls and decisions of 11-5 and 5-4.
In Adkisson’s tournament that ran Friday through Sunday, he finished with a record of 5-1 following a state tournament he earned fourth at 165 pounds. Adkisson lost the eventual champion by technical fall in the elite eight but won by pinfall in his other matches, including twice in the first period. Those early victories happened in the consolation semifinals and third-place match.
