Colonels lose home opener 48-43 against Wright City

Missouri Military Academy basketball couldn't do just enough for victory on Wednesday night.

The Colonels lost their home opener 48-43 to Wright City after the Wildcats hit 7-of-9 free throws in the fourth quarter while MMA (0-2) sat on seven points through most of the second half. MMA led 26-23 at halftime after a Kennedy Barchigei 3-pointer at the buzzer but eventually fell behind 42-33 in the fourth quarter, until Gihana Favour Nziza was fed the ball inside to cut deficit to 42-41 with 1:15 left in the game. Nziza finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the floor, Barchigei followed with 11 points and three 3-pointers, and Levi Foster had nine points. Kaiden Pilcher led Wright City (1-3) with 14 points and nine rebounds, and Duan McRoberts had nine points and 10 rebounds.

MMA hosts Tuscumbia (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
