Community R-6 girls lead fades away in 41-34 loss at Wellsville-Middletown
The Community R-6 girls couldn’t hold their lead on Nov. 21.
The Lady Trojans had the advantage at district foe Wellsville-Middletown — the team they beat for a district title last season — for 29 minutes before losing 41-34. Community (1-1) scored 12 points in the final 16 minutes while Wellsville (1-0) had 18 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 22-14 Community halftime lead.
“We will bounce back,” head coach Bob Curtis said. “We have some things to work on and we will be grinding to get better everyday at practice. Wellsville has a very veteran crew that will have a lot of wins this season with all the talent that they have.”
Aaliyah Welch led the Lady Trojans for the second straight game with 11 points, Kylie Brooks followed with eight points, Peyton Beamer had seven points and Alyssa Beamer had six points.
Community hosts Marion County (2-0) at 6 p.m. tonight. The boys (1-1) play the Mustangs (2-0) afterward at 7:30 p.m. following their first win of the season Nov. 21 at Wellsville-Middletown (0-1) 55-37.
