Council approves street project money

Among other business at the Feb. 24 meeting, Mexico City Council approved $34,721.26 for some street repairs through a crack and joint sealing process.

“This is a very cost-effective treatment as far as sealing up the streets,” City Manager Bruce Slagle said.

The sealing project planned for 2025 includes the areas generally bounded by Jefferson Road to the south, West Street to the west, Liberty Street to the north and Huntingfield Drive to the east, a council agenda memo stated. The anticipated cost of the 2025 Crack and Joint Seal Project is $34,721.26, which will seal nearly 26,500 linear feet of streets, with Sweetens Sealing Services conducting the project.

The agenda memo stated the contractor will place a “hot poured rubberized sealant on cracks and joints on the streets selected within this area to mitigate water infiltration and freeze/thaw impacts over winter” and that engineering staff will “conduct construction inspection on this work and conduct the annual review in December based upon said work.”

The 2024-2025 Capital Improvement Sales Tax fund allows $400,000 for contracted street maintenance, and the fund currently has $387,362.75 remaining for the following projects: crack and joint seal, asphalt and concrete.
