Also decided at the March 24 Mexico City Council meeting, council:

  • Approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to sign contract documents with Louis Company LLC of Grain Valley, Missouri, for a cost of $945,743.02 for the Pollock Road Bridge Replacement Project. The project is a grant project with the Missouri Department of Transportation eligible for a match of 12.3% by the city.
  • Approved authorizing the city manager to enter Into an agreement with the Optimist Club of Mexico to assist in providing services for the Mexico community. The council agenda memo stated the 2024-25 budget allows for the city to contribute $7,500 to the Optimist Club of Mexico to assist in the offset of operational costs related to providing programs and activities for the Mexico community.
  • Approved increasing Fairgrounds Aquatic Center daily admission fees by $1 to $6. The memo explained that when the current budget was developed and approved, there was no way to anticipate the passage of a minimum wage amendment, and because of the passage of Proposition A on Nov. 5, local market prices for seasonal part-time labor are expected to increase over the next two years, with minimum wage for non-governmental employees increasing to $13.75 in January 2025 and increasing to $15 in 2026. The memo explained that lifeguards and pool managers are certified employees and must pass mentally and physically difficult certification testing to qualify for employment, and city officials’ goal is to “hire from a quality employment pool to successfully fill these positions. In order to do that, we need to provide competitive wages, and balance that with a reasonable admission rate for help with cost recovery.”
