Mexico man arrested and charged with several crimes including kidnapping
On Tuesday, August 15, at approximately 6:49 a.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) responded to the 500 block of Pearson Street in reference to a disturbance with someone being held against their will. Responding officers found evidence that Robert L Jackson II, age 52 of Mexico, had been with several people in a home during the previous overnight hours. Jackson believed someone had stolen some of his property and began threatening people with a gun. Jackson was safely taken into custody and arrested for Kidnapping 3rd degree, Sexual Abuse 1st degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Armed Criminal Action. He was eventually taken to the Audrain County Jail for the offenses. There were no injuries from the incident.
Residents are reminded that people arrested / charged with a crime are simply accused of the crime and are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
MPSD responds to house fire
On Saturday, August 12 at approximately 9:18 p.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) responded to the 600 block of Yale Street in reference to a fire. Responding personnel found a generator and gas can burning near a garage and covered patio. The fire was extinguished and there was no damage to other property. The resident stated he had been running the generator throughout the day due to the extended power outage in the area. He stated that as he added more gasoline to the hot generator, it caught fire. The resident suffered minor burns to his legs. He was examined by Audrain Ambulance District and did not want to be transported to a hospital.
