Davolt qualifies for state, Mexico boys have qualifier for third straight year

For the third straight year, Mexico boys tennis is sending a boy to the state tournament. Boston Davolt finished second to snag one of the two spots in the Class 1 District 3 individual tournament on Friday and Saturday in Mexico.

Davolt won his first two matches on Friday 6-0, 6-0 and then 6-1, 6-2 before advancing via a forfeit on Saturday and losing in two sets to Columbia Independent's Wyatt Litton in the district championship match. He plays in the Class 1 individual state tournament from May 15-17 at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

Brixton Goerne earned all-district honors after finishing third by winning both of his Friday matches 6-4, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2. Goerne also lost in two sets to Litton on Saturday. 

Mexico's doubles pairings Landon Whitworth and Johnny Hernandez and Carter Blackburn and Skylar Shaw each lost in the first round on Friday.

Mexico (3-9) hosts STEAM Academy (6-3) in the first round of the Class 1 District 3 team tournament at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Fairgrounds Park in Mexico. Senior night will be celebrated at around 4:15 p.m.
