The Mexico Ledger has welcomed a veteran newspaperman to its staff.

Don Munsch began work last week as the newspaper’s new general manager/editor. This is a new position created to help grow the newspaper’s print and online circulation.

Munsch has a lengthy career working for publications primarily in the southern United States, but he has ties to Missouri. He will be responsible for overseeing the newspaper’s office and directing its news coverage.

“We’re thrilled for Don to join our staff,” Publisher Tim Schmidt said. “We first made contact with Don a couple of years ago and remained in contact with him when we had various openings. I’m glad to finally have him leading our staff. He brings with him a wealth of experience in community journalism. Don is a strong writer and will be a welcome addition as we continue to place a high priority on improving our news coverage.”

Munsch was previously a government reporter for Community Impact, a newspaper group in suburban Dallas-Fort Worth area. Prior to that stint, he was editor of the Azle News and Springtown Epigraph, and news editor at C&S Media in Wylie, Texas.

Other Texas newspapers he has worked at include the Pilot Point Post-Signal, Killeen Daily Herald, Odessa American and Fort Bend Herald and he spent some time at the Elk City News in Oklahoma.

During Munsch’s career, he was recognized by the Texas State Teachers Association for “Outstanding Continuous Coverage in Local Education” for three consecutive years. He also is the recipient of multiple Texas Press Association and Associated Press Managing Editors awards.

Munsch obtained his journalism degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

Munsch can be reached by emailing don@mexicoledger.com, calling 573-581-1111 or visiting the newspaper at its office at 222 S. Jefferson St., Ste 201, in Mexico.
