Douglas Alewel, age 93, of Carthage, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage.

Douglas, son of the late Herman and Emelia (Meyer) Alewel, was born on February 6, 1929, in Concordia. He was a graduate of Concordia High School and then attended the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Pharmacy. After graduating with a degree in pharmacy, Douglas honorably served his country in the United States Army until 1954. After returning, he was united in marriage to Joyce Glaser on September 8, 1957, in Overland Park, Kan. Douglas, later partnering with Jerry Brauer, was the owner and operator of A & B Prescription Shop in Mexico, until he retired in 1983. He and his wife Joyce moved to Carl Junction, in 2001 to be closer to family. Douglas was a lifelong devout and faithful congregation member of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. 

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Alewel, of Carthage; three daughters, Jeffra Lyn Marcus, and her husband, Norman, of Los Angeles, Calif., Christi Anna Moore, of Joplin, and Sarah Genee Whitney, and her husband, Paul, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; grandchildren, Courtney Konicy, and her husband Sam, Alex Moore, and his wife, Becca, Jaden Moore, Ethan Marcus, Paige Whitney, and Ian Whitney; one great grandson, Silas Moore; and one sister, Bonnie Jean Ness, of Garden Grove, Calif.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
