A fire caused by unattended burning of trash damaged a detached garage and lawn care equipment Monday at a Mexico home.
No injuries were reported.
Little Dixie Fire Protection District firefighters were called to the home, in the 9800 block of Audrain Road, just before 4:35 p.m. after getting a call about a structure fire, a news release from Little Dixie stated.
Fire crews arrived and found flames coming from the inside of a detached garage, the release stated, and it took 10 minutes to bring the flames under control. The crews worked to prevent the flames from spreading to the home, but the garage sustained significant damage to the carport, with smoke damage throughout. Damage is estimated at $10,000 to the structure and lawn care equipment.
Three fire apparatuses and 10 firefighters responded to this fire, which Investigators determined was caused by unattended burning of trash in the front yard of the home, which spread to leaves near the garage.
“The Little Dixie Fire Protection District reminds residents to never leave outdoor fires unattended and always have a method of extinguishment readily available while burning,” the release stated.
