Fire damages two houses in Mexico

Posted

A fire Oct. 22 caused significant damage to one house and minor damage to a neighboring house.

There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire was determined to be the accidental loss of embers while smoking, according to a news release from the Mexico Public Safety Department .

Just before 3 p.m., MPSD responded to the 1000 block of Robinhood in reference to a structure fire after neighbors reported seeing smoke and flames coming from a house. The neighbors entered the home and got two dogs out before the fire became too intense. While MPSD was responding, Audrain County Joint Communications received a call from a woman who said she and a child were trapped in the basement of the home.

Responding personnel found a large fire coming from the south side of the home that was beginning to burn a neighboring house. MPSD got the woman and child out of the basement through a window on the north side of the home. The two were checked by Audrain Ambulance District staff and did not need further medical attention.

The fire was extinguished. The original house sustained serious fire damage and the neighboring house had minor fire damage.
