GFWC Mexico Women’s Club met on March 10 at the YMCA Café with President Gailyn Fennewald presiding. The meeting was hosted by members of the Civic Engagement and Outreach Committee: Bev Borgeson, Sherry Medley, Carolyn Dragoo and Christy Smiley. Their project was the donation of peanut butter and jelly for the C2C program and Mexico Public School students.
The meeting was a salad luncheon and guests from The Columbia Tuesday Club, Wellsville GFWC and Bowling Green GFWC were welcomed. The program was given by Randy Gooch, associate director of programs for the Cradle to Career initiative. He spoke about the history of the C2C program in Mexico and its goals for the youth in the community. Several grants have been received from C2C, and he spoke about their purposes and progress.
Members Valine Perll, Carolyn Dragoo and Bev Borgeson will visit Missouri Girls’ Town on March 13 and will host a bingo party for the girls.
Donations were collected for Missouri Girls’ Town, Our Safe Place and National Organ Donor Association. Snacks and small gift items were also donated to be used by residents of Teal Lake Assisted Living. Gailyn Fennewald and Cheryl Slagle will provide birthday cake to the residents of The Arbors in March.
Plans are being made for the club’s spring fundraiser, selling geraniums. Members will be taking orders in March and beginning of April. The geraniums will be delivered to the YMCA the first Saturday in May. Community members may order from club members or Stacy Nichols at the YMCA. Members appreciate the community’s support of this fundraiser. The proceeds help support the many philanthropic endeavors of the club.
The next meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. April 14 at the YMCA.
