Amongst the swirling wind, the Bulldogs had the lowest score out of five teams at Arthur Hills Golf Course, shooting a 175 to be better than Montgomery County’s 183, Harrisburg’s 186, Missouri Military Academy’s 192 and Centralia junior varsity’s 224.

Returning state qualifier Aidan Knipfel finished a round at even par for the first time in his high school career, shooting a 36. Jacob Stephens followed with a 44, Landon Love had a 46 and Kaiden Doeblin finished with a 49.

North Callaway golf back-to-back Callaway Cup champion

For the second straight year, North Callaway proved to have the best golfers in Callaway County.

The Thunderbirds won the Callaway Cup on Thursday, April 20 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield by shooting a 183, which was ahead of Fulton’s 198, South Callaway’s 216 and New Bloomfield’s 224. Connor Green was the medalist after shooting a 44.

Davis Althiser and Tucker Wright each had the runner-up score of 45, and Tyler Huddleston had a 49.

Mexico, Centralia, Van-Far, Paris compete at Centralia Invitational, Bulldogs, Panthers, Indians earn medalists

Several area golf teams converged in Centralia on Monday.

In the Centralia Invitational, the host Panthers finished second out of nine schools with a 344 in the 18-hole tournament and had two golfers finish in the individual top 10 to earn medals. Mexico was sixth with a 393 and were led by medalist Aidan Knipfel, Van-Far finished fifth with a 390 and had Cody Smith as its medalist, and Paris shot a 412 for seventh place.

Knipfel had the fifth-best score to lead Mexico with an 84, Jacob Stephens was second-best with a 101, Kaiden Doebelin had a 102 and Mac Haag shot a 106.

Centralia’s medalists were Cullen Bennett with a 77, who was the individual runner-up behind Hallsville’s Logan Cox as the Indians won the tournament with a 323, and Luke Sachs shot an 88 to finish ninth. Carter Moss just missed the cut with an 89, and Travis Brooks had a 90.

For Van-Far, Smith shot an 86 to finish sixth, Pacey Reading followed with a 90, and Katelyn McCurdy and Clara Wallace each shot a 107.

Evin Reichmann led Paris with a 95, Mason Edwards and Garrett Henry each shot a 101, and Brad Skinner had a 115.

Centralia's Bennett top five, Panthers finish second at Old Hawthorne

In a quad meet Thursday at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Centralia was solid.

The Panthers finished second behind California as they shot a 361 compared to the Pintos' 323, with Boonville finishing with a 366 and Eugene shooting a 423. Cullen Bennett's 18-hole score of 85 was good enough for the top five as he tied Boonville's Aiden Rapp. Will Boyd won with a score of 71, which was one-under-par.

For Centralia, Carter Moss was behind Bennett with an 87, Travis Brooks had a 93 and Josh Bowne shot a 96.
