Indians lose district title to Clopton in last second 55-52

A back-and-forth district championship game came down to one second on Friday night.

Adam Lindsay nailed a 3-pointer for to leave 0.5 seconds on the clock to give Class 2 District 5 tournament host Clopton a 55-52 win over Van-Far (19-10). Going into the fourth quarter, Van-Far had a 42-37 lead and its margin was as high as seven points in the second half. Carson Huff scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half in what was his final game for Van-Far in a career that saw him score over 1,000 points for Wellsville-Middletown and the Indians. Even though he picked up his fourth foul late in the third quarter, Pacey Reading led the Indians with 18 points, including 11 points in the second half, along with 10 rebounds. Evan Utterback had nine points, five rebounds and three steals. 

Lindsay led Clopton (18-9) with 16 points, Tucker Salmons followed with 15 points, and Kain Eivins had 12 points and six rebounds. The Hawks are district champions for the third time in four years. They beat Eastern Missouri Conference foe Van-Far three times this season.
