Reece Culwell and Van-Far took care of business on Senior Night.
The Indians defeated Sturgeon 5-1 on Monday in Farber in a rematch from last year's Class 2 District 5 championship game. The senior Culwell struck out eight and allowed an unearned run on five hits and one walk in seven innings and went 2-for-3 with one RBI at the plate. Ronnie Stanich had two RBIs for Van-Far (11-7) against Sturgeon (7-10), Garrett Hopke went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases, and senior Carson Huff had one RBI. Van-Far secured its 11th win and a program record for wins in a season, according to head coach Cameron Huff. Culwell, Huff and other seniors Malik and Tyson Douglas and Layne Varner were recognized between the varsity and junior varsity game.
Van-Far (5-4 EMO) hosts Eastern Missouri Conference and district foe Clopton (9-7, 5-3) at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Indians found out its has the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Paris (4-9) at 4:30 p.m. May 16 at Clopton in Clarksville while Clopton has the No. 3 seed.
