It's beginning to look like Christmas

Beyond the trees, sleigh bells and ornaments, a giant red ribbon is held by friends and family at J. Marshall. The gift? Mexico’s newest seasonal home decor and gift shop.

Store owner John Graham owns the greenhouses on the west side of town known as Callaway Fields, J. Marshall’s parent company.

“We’ve done some holiday merchandising over there the last couple years and it's just kind of grown and grown into J. Marshall.” says Graham.

Before, Graham’s seasonal merchandise was sold out of the barn at Callaway Fields and was only available for a couple months out of the year. Now, the new store whose halls are decked with all things Christmas, will be open all year round with rotating, seasonal themes.

“There weren't really a lot of other places in Mexico that offered this kind of selection of holiday, everyday gifts and decor so that's kind of what led into this as far as us expanding into this location,” says Graham.

The conversation about a home decor focused brick and mortar began in early January and Graham began scouting locations right away.

“We looked at a couple different spots when this building came up and it was perfect and so we were like, ‘hey lets do it’,” says Graham.

After that, renovations began and J. Marshall was open for business by August. While they were open, Graham wanted to hold off on the official ribbon cutting so the store would be beautifully decorated for Christmas.

What makes J. Marshall stand out is the keen attention to detail and personal approach to selecting the merchandise to be sold. Everything in the building is hand selected and includes some regionally crafted products.

“I think the quality is really nic and the price point is still great,” says Graham. “We have a lot of nice quality products to help holiday anyone's home.”

The store is open seven days a week. Monday through Friday J. Marshall is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Christmas decorations went up at the end of September but by January they will have switched to Spring. Summer themed decor will be available from the end of March to June and from June through August, you’ll find Fall decor.

“We do have gift certificates available and gift certificates work at J.Marshall or at Callaway Fields so they can be redeemed at either place,” says Graham.

Marshall is truly a family effort; Graham’s mother Jane and his father Jim have been involved in his business ventures since the beginning. Melisa Chastain is the store manager running day to day operations as well as the till while Graham is with Callaway Fields.

“The hope is that we have good support within the community which we've had so far,” says Graham. “We hope to continue to bring really nice quality products and inspiration to your home.”

One step inside and you’re transported into the winter wonderland that is J. Marshall is surrounded by skillfully decorated christmas trees and overcome with the scent of holiday cheer all of which is for sale, even the smell.
