A kitchen fire Tuesday caused significant smoke damage and moderate fire and water damage to a home in Mexico.
There were no injuries reported and the resident reportedly fell asleep while cooking on the stovetop, according to a news release from the Mexico Public Safety Department.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., MPSD responded to the 900 block of West Breckenridge Street in reference to a structure fire. Responding personnel located a fire in the kitchen. The fire was contained and extinguished. The home sustained significant smoke damage, and the kitchen sustained moderate fire and water damage.
The resident, who had been awakened by smoke detectors, escaped the home with no injuries.
