The Mexico girls were in a fight until the very end on Monday to kick off districts. After falling behind 16-3 in the first quarter and having Wright City tie the game at 60 in the final minute, the Lady Bulldogs won their Class 4 District 8 tournament game 64-61 to advance to Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. contest against host and North Central Missouri Conference rival Fulton (11-14).
Kylie Burnett, Karlee Sefrit and Claire Hudson each picked up some offensive rebounds down the stretch to give Mexico the late edge. Grace Hudson led the Lady Bulldogs (11-15) with 15 points and five 3-pointers, Claire Hudson followed with 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals, Jo Thurman finished with nine points, eight rebounds and five assists, Kenzie Taylor had eight points and Kylie Burnett had seven points.
Mexico and Wright City (7-20) combined for 18 3-pointers in the game, with the Lady Wildcats having three girls each hit at least three 3-pointers. Paige Rees led with 21 points, five rebounds and five 3-pointers, Shiriah McRoberts followed with 19 points and four 3-pointers, and Danika Graham had nine points on three 3-pointers.
