Lady Bulldogs in elite 8 after 68-53 win at Westminster Christian Academy

The Mexico girls gradually made their advance Tuesday night until they advanced in the state bracket.

The Lady Bulldogs took their first lead in the third quarter at Westminster Christian Academy in a Class 4 sectional game before holding on to the lead for good to a 68-53 victory. Mexico won the game in Town and County -- around Chesterfield -- after outscoring the Lady Wildcats 25-15 in the third quarter to take a 49-42 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Claire Hudson posted a triple-double for Mexico with 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists, Alyssa Miller led with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Scottie Smith had 15 points and seven steals. Addie Kane led Westminster Christian Academy with 21 points and seven rebounds, and Essence Robertson followed with 13 points.

Mexico plays at state No. 4 MICDS (22-6) at 1 p.m. Saturday since the Lady Rams won 59-13 at Vashon on Tuesday night. The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinals one night after the Bulldogs' 55-49 win at Orchard Farm, making it the first time since 1997 that both basketball teams advanced this far.
