Mexico softball had to overcome much on Thursday in Macon for redemption from last year.
The Lady Bulldogs won 9-8 in nine innings against Hallsville (12-13) in the Class 3 District 4 semifinals despite catcher Hannah Loyd having to leave the game via ambulance in the fourth inning and the defensive committing six errors. Mexico (19-13) missed the championship game in its Class 4 tournament last year after losing 9-8 in innings to St. Dominic but advances to the championship game this year for the first time since 2019. After Hallsville took an 8-7 lead in the ninth inning, Sammie Gipson (4-for-5) tied the game with a bloop single just within the first-base line and then Maddy Feger (2-for-4 with two RBIs) won the game with a flare that dropped into left field.
Alyssa Miller went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double, Landri Teel had a two-RBI double, and Payton Shaw hit a solo home run. Keerstan Ewing allowed six runs (two earned), four hits and two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, Gipson allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings, and Kaitlyn Krietemeyer allowed one hit in one shutout inning.
Mexico plays host Macon (21-13) at 6 p.m. Monday after the Tigerettes beat Bowling Green 3-0 on Thursday.
