Mexico had lost seven of its last eight softball meetings with Fulton before beating its North Central Missouri Conference rival 10-4 on Thursday at home.
The Lady Bulldogs (9-7, 4-0 NCMC) tallied five extra-base hits, including three straight in the third inning, to move to an undefeated 4-0 in conference play. Hannah Loyd hit her third home run of the season in that third inning and walked three times, including twice intentionally.
"I wasn't sure it was going to go over," Loyd said about her home run to left field. "I didn't think I hit full ball, but hey, that's what happens when you put the bat to the ball."
Landri Teel went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a two-RBI double; Payton Shaw finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles; and Alyssa Miller went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
After Keerstan Ewing pitched four innings with three earned runs allowed and three strikeouts, Kaitlyn Krietemeyer pitched three shutout innings against Fulton (2-12, 1-4 NCMC) with two walks, one hit and one strikeout.
"They were making sure they were seeing the ball down in the zone," head coach Hanna Jones said about Mexico's hitting. "Timing, we knew it was going to be a big factor in this game. A lot of times, we were ahead of the ball so we wanted to be late on our swing in her windup to make sure we were on time."
On Wednesday, Mexico won at Class 3 District 4 foe Macon (8-6) 5-4 on a game-winning RBI single by Scottie Smith in the seventh inning. Smith went 2-for-4, Loyd was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Maddy Feger finished 2-for-2 with two walks, one RBI and one double. Ewing pitched four innings with two earned runs and two strikeouts, and Krietemeyer pitched three hitless innings with one strikeout.
