After needing overtime, the Mexico girls needed less time on Wednesday.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated district foe Hallsville 62-29 at home one night after winning 70-68 in overtime at Macon. Mexico (8-6) finished with 19 steals and 14 assists against Hallsville (3-10) while all 10 Lady Bulldogs who played scored.
"They were setting a lot of screens and a lot of pitches we had to try to beat," head coach Makenzie Mudd said. "At the beginning, we were chasing players instead of jumping off. In the second quarter, we got a lot better when the screen was coming. We were communicating better and getting around it earlier so we could stop the ball without having to chase."
Claire Hudson led with 27 points, six rebounds and four 3-pointers after leading the team with 21 points, including her career 1,000th point, against Macon (5-11). Hudson is the second Lady Bulldog in the seven years Mudd has been a coach with the program after Mya Miller scored her 1,000th point a few years ago. Younger sister Grace Hudson, who scored 18 points against Macon, had the assist to Hudson's 3-pointer that netted her the feat.
"It was just a very cool day," Hudson said. "The win in overtime on top of it made it so much better."
Scottie Smith had nine points and five steals against Hallsville, and Kenley Jones had four points and five steals. Kaylee McCubbin led Hallsville with 11 points.
Mexico (2-1 NCMC) plays a rematch at North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville (7-7, 3-1 NCMC) at 6 p.m. Friday after losing 52-49 at home earlier this season.
