It hadn't happened since 2006.

Mexico girls basketball won a district title for the first time since the year when head coach Makenzie Mudd was a freshman playing for Ed Costley. The No. 3 seed Lady Bulldogs defeated conference foe and No. 1 seed Kirksville 54-32 on Saturday in the Class 4 District 8 championship game in Mexico, which happened one night after the boys won a district title to make it the first dual district title year for Mexico basketball since 1997. Mexico (15-13) took a 23-20 halftime lead after two late 3-pointers by Alyssa Miller and then outscored Kirksville 20-6 in the third quarter. Miller finished with 17 points and six rebounds, Claire Hudson had 15 points, nine rebounds and three 3-pointers, and Scottie Smith finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and three 3-pointers. Paishynce Fouts led Kirksville (13-13) with 15 points and six rebounds.

Mexico plays its sectional game at Class 4 District 7 champion Westminster Christian Academy (12-16) on Tuesday.
