Mexico was even with Kirksville until Wednesday night.
Each team had 17 wins, including one over each other, and a share of the North Central Missouri Conference championship, but the Lady Bulldogs won 6-3 over Kirksville (17-9) in the first round of the Class 3 District 4 tournament in Macon. Mexico (18-13) scored two runs in the first inning and then added on with a two-RBI home run by Hannah Loyd (her career-high 10th) in the third inning and a two-RBI double by Maddy Feger in the sixth inning for her third double of the game. Feger made a running catch in center field in the bottom half of the inning to force Kirksville to strand the bases loaded. Keerstan Ewing pitched seven inning with seven hits, four strikeouts, three runs and one walk.
Mexico plays Hallsville (12-12) at 5 p.m. Thursday in Macon for the semifinals.
