Top-seeded Lady Panthers build up to 10-0 district win over Boonville

Posted

Centralia wasn't going home early this season.

Well, the Lady Panthers ended Wednesday's first round Class 3 District 4 tournament game early at Southern Boone in Ashland by defeating Boonville 10-0 in six innings. The No. 1 team in the tournament and state were eliminated by Macon in the first round of districts with a 3-2 loss.

So after two scoreless innings, Nos. 1 and 2 hitters Madi Johnson (2-3 with two RBI and two doubles) and Ealynne Bostick (2-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles) hit back-to-back RBI doubles as the lineup was being cycled through a second time. The pair did it again in the fifth inning to double Centralia's lead to 4-0 before the lead was extended to 7-0 in that inning. Cora King (3-for-4 three RBI) hit a two-RBI double and Jaylynn Brown (two RBI) followed with a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the sixth inning to trigger the mercy rule. Brown picked up 13 strikeouts, one hit and one walk in her six innings pitched.

Centralia faces North Callaway (21-12) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
