Community R-6 softball was sparked by one inning on Saturday.
The state No. 7 Lady Trojans (21-11) scored six runs in the fifth inning before following that with three runs in the sixth to defeat North Shelby (15-8) 10-6 in the Class 1 District 4 semifinals on their home field in Laddonia and earn a fourth meeting this season with state No. 8 Paris (2106). Community finished with 12 hits, led by Peyton Schafer going 3-for-4 with one RBI and Amy McCurdy finishing 3-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Braelyn Kuda hit her first career home run to lead off the productive fifth inning, when 10 batters came to the plate to respond to North Shelby taking a 4-1 lead in the top half of the fifth. Three other Lady Trojans each had one RBI, and Jocelyn Curtis struck out seven and alloweed four earned runs on six hits and two walks.
