Community R-6 softball won on an important night Thursday.

The Lady Trojans did win 10-0 in five innings against a Class 1 District 4 foe Marion County (5-8) at home but were victorious on Senior Night. The team's three seniors -- Jocelyn Curtis, Chloe Johnson and Peyton Schafer -- each reached base multiple times for the walk-off victory and third shutout for Community (11-20) this season. Curtis struck out a season-high 11 while allowing four hits in five innings and finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one double at the plate, Johnson had the walk-off double and went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Schafer had a single and a walk. Lydia Hoyt was 4-for-4 with one RBI, and Maci Poindexter and Myla Carroll each had one RBI.

"When they put (the second pitcher) in the third inning, they were trying to throw us off a little bit," head coach Jeff Angel said. "We made a good adjustment and started squaring things up in the fifth inning, and that's what got us over the hump."

Curtis, Johnson and Schafer were each recognized with their parents after the game along with the trap shooting seniors: Lane Carter and Cooper Rohan.

"It feels really great to win on Senior Night," Curtis said. "It feels really good to have everybody here to support. Our team out there, everybody was playing for us so it felt really good to win the game tonight."

"It was all-around fun," Johnson said. "I enjoyed every minute of it, having everyone there, watching us and playing for us."

"It was a mix of emotions, but I'm glad we got the win to secure our season," Schafer said.

Community hosts Class 2 No. 6 Elsberry (20-4) at 5 p.m. Tuesday to close the regular season before starting districts at 4 p.m. Thursday as the No. 6 seed against No. 3 seed Canton (13-13) at North Shelby in Shelbyville. The Lady Trojans beat Canton 9-3 in the Paris Tournament this season.
