Community softball came through when opportunity was there on Tuesday.
The Lady Trojans (2-0) had one chance to have a victorious home opener against Harrisburg (1-3) and won 8-2. Community's first six runs were scored with two outs, including four in the second inning. After a runner was doubled off third base, No. 9 hitter Aaliyah Welch hit a RBI single that was followed by a two-RBI triple by Rylee Rafferty. Peyton Schafer, Chloe Johnson and Myla Carroll each had a RBI, and Jocelyn Curtis struck out seven and allowed two unearned runs on four hits in seven innings.
Community plays at Hermann (0-1) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
