Ladybirds lose to state-ranked Fulton hit barrage

North Callaway encountered another No. 2 state-ranked team in Class 3 on Monday at home. The Class 2 No. 9 Ladybirds lost by run-rule earlier in the season at Hallsville and lost 18-3 in four innings to Fulton to begin this week. Hallsville and Fulton are each tied for second in the Class 3 state rankings, and the Lady Hornets (13-5-1) proved why with their 15 hits. The Ladybirds (13-8) committed five errors to allow nine unearned runs in the first three innings.

Still, North Callaway finished with six hits and some had solid days at the plate. Coming off her two-home-run, five-RBI game in a 7-4 win Saturday at Harrisburg, Kymorie Myers finished 1-for-2 with a RBI and a walk. Ella Slater had a 4-for-4, five RBI game on Saturday against Moberly and then picked up another RBI against Fulton. Faith Cash went 2-for-2 with a RBI, and Megan Schmidt was 2-for-3.

"You want them to get more locked in, closer to districts," head coach Mariah McKee said. "That's when you want them to hit on all cylinders. Every athlete is going to go through peaks and valleys. We just got to find a way to work through them."

North Callaway (4-1 EMO) hosts Eastern Missouri Conference foe Louisiana (8-6, 2-4 EMO) at 5 p.m. Tuesday before playing at 5 p.m. Thursday at conference foe Silex (8-7, 4-1 EMO).
