Mexico gains late advantage in 5-1 Senior Night win over Macon

Mexico needed runs to win for its seniors and got them in the sixth inning.

The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs to break a tie with Macon (18-7) on Monday night at Gallop Field to win 5-1 on Senior Night. Mexico (13-13) was outhit 7-5 but had a big inning starting with a RBI single by Aleigha Henderson, who struck out three in two innings pitched.

Keerstan Ewing allowed one run on six hits and struck out five in five innings. She scored on a passed ball as did senior Kenley Jones in the sixth inning. 

Hannah Loyd and Landri Teel each had RBI.

Mexico (5-3) plays at North Central Missouri Conference and district foe Hannibal (1-20, 0-7 NCMC) at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Centralia defeats North Callaway 12-2 in potential district matchup

Centralia and North Callaway thought they might have had a preview of districts on Monday night.

Class 3 No. 1 Centralia defeated North Callaway 12-2 on the road in Kingdom City, finishing with 13 hits. The Lady Panthers had an 8-0 lead after the fourth inning.

For Centralia (21-3), Madi Johnson finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and two home runs, Tilly Fox went 3-for-3 with three RBI, Claire Page went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, Bailey Schuering had a RBI and a double, and Cora King had a RBI. Jaylynn Brown struck out eight and allowed two hits and one walk through four innings, and Brooklyn Hardin allowed two runs on four hits and one walk in three innings.

For North Callaway (19-11), Kendra Pennell led with two RBI and a double, and Kymorie Myers went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Centralia (4-0 CCC) hosts Clarence Cannon Conference foe Monroe City (14-5, 3-2 CCC) at 6:30 p.m. tonight while North Callaway (6-2 EMO) hosts Eastern Missouri Conference foe Mark Twain (15-13, 3-5 EMO) at 5 p.m. tonight for Senior Night.

Van-Far clobbers Marion County again 12-4

In Van-Far's second game against Marion County this season, the Lady Indians won decisively again. 

They defeated the Lady Mustangs (5-10) 22-6 earlier this season at a tournament but defeated them 12-4 this time at their field. Van-Far (3-16) finished with 11 hits, and Elliott Utterback led with six RBI and a triple during her 2-for-4 performance.

Dalana Gay finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, Kenya Jones went 2-or-4, Trinity Skwirtz finished 2-for-3 with a triple, Kaelyn Hutcheson and Reeve Woodall each had a RBI, and Kayla Heaton scored three times with no hits but two walks.

Woodall struck out four and allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk in three innings, and Taelyn Ward allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four in four innings.

Van-Far (1-7 EMO) hosts Eastern Missouri Conference foe Wright City (8-16, 1-6 EMO) at 5 p.m. tonight.

Paris back in win column  with 6-5 win at Harrisburg after another close game

Paris lost in close fashion the past two times so it was fitting the win came in that way.

The Lady Coyotes (17-6) dropped games 4-1 to Fayette and 7-6 to Westran but won 6-5 at Harrisburg (8-13) on Monday. They finished with 12 hits and won despite four errors. 

Sophia Crusha went 3-for-4 with three RBI, Kennedy Ashenfelter and Reese Sutton each had a RBI and a double, Ava Crain finished 4-for-4, and Gretchen Crusha went 2-for-3.

Sutton allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks in four innings pitched, and Ashenfelter allowed three hits and one walk through three shutout innings.

 Paris hosts district foe Canton (10-12) at 5 p.m. tonight.

Centralia boys win fifth straight conference title

The Centralia boys are Clarence Cannon Conference champions for the fifth straight time.

The Panthers won the conference meet hosted at Macon on Monday after finishing with 19 points -- ahead of South Shelby's 48 points. Nolan Spickert was the individual conference champion for the boys, and Kenedee Moss was the girls champion.

The boys who placed first through seventh to earn first team honors was Spickert in first with a time of 16:50, Carter Moss in second with a 16:51, Dryst Bostick in fourth with a 17:31, Wesley Robertson in fifth with a 17:38 and Zane Deckerd in seventh with a 17:50. Second-team members, or eighth through 14th, were Jensen Decker in 11th with a 18:28 and Lane Chancellor in 13th with a 18:31. 

Moss finished first for the girls with a time of 20:58, and Katelynn Asbury was only other Lady Panthers all-conference runner after earning first-team honors with a fourth-place time of 22:06.

Centralia's Spickert finishes as conference runner-up, Lady Panthers third

Kyla Spickert is a first-team golfer.

The Centralia leader earned first-team Clarence Cannon Conference status on Monday at Norwoods Golf Course in Hannibal. Spickert finished second overall after shooting an 87, following Highland's Morgan Crist's 77. 

Centralia finished third as a team with a score of 444, which was behind Highland's 390 and South Shelby's 431. Cami Moser was the second-best Lady Panther with a score of 115, Lyla Mattison finished with a 120, and Madie Shelton had a 122 .

Volleyball

Centralia defeats Mexico in straight sets

Centralia (7-15) defended home court and its winning streak, which extended to four matches, against Mexico (10-8) on Monday. The Lady Panthers won 25-22, 25-10 and 26-24.

Centralia hosts Montgomery County (2-14) at 6:30 p.m. tonight while Mexico plays at Southern Boone (12-4-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Boys soccer

Mexico loses 12-0 at Class 2 No. 5 Marshall

The Bulldogs (5-7, 1-5 NCMC) lost their third straight game and second to North Central Missouri Conference foe Marshall (13-2, 6-1 NCMC).

Mexico hosts School of the Osage (6-6) at 6:45 p.m. tonight.
