XC ROUNDUP: Mexico boys finish fifth at Laker Invitational

The Mexico boys held their own at a large field on Saturday in Camdenton.

The varsity boys finished fifth out of 18 schools at the Laker Invitational, with Andrew Peuster taking 13th place with a time of 17:10 and Hunter Bickell taking 16th with a 17:17, and Riley Gordon was 13th in junior varsity boys race with a time of 19:43. For the varsity girls, Maggie Ramsey finished 13th out of 92 runners with a time of 21:05, and Emma Seibert was the next highest finisher for the Lady Bulldogs in 63rd.

Stevenson wins Moberly Invitational for Mexico JH boys

Seth Stevenson had a good week for the Mexico junior high boys.

Stevenson won the Moberly Invitational on Thursday with a time of 11:12 after finishing fifth two days prior at the Black Hawk MS Invitational in Warrenton with a time of 9:09. Stevenson just beat Kirksville’s Jack Dent (11:16) to the finish line in Moberly.

In Moberly, the boys finished third out of 14 schools with 99 points — behind Kirksville’s 89 points in runner-up position. Reid Bickell followed Stevenson in 20th with a time of 13:00, and Vinton Lehnen was 25th with a 13:14. For the girls, Lisabeth Ventura Rios was the lone medalist with a 20th-place time of 14:22.

In Warrenton, the boys finished fifth out of 14 schools with 141 points — behind Frontier’s 140 points in fourth place. Alex Cortez finished 18th with a time of 9:44 to be the boys’ other medalist. For the girls, there were no medalists, but the highest finisher was Maria Peuster with a 41st-place time of 11:45.

Paris, Community JV run in Moberly

Paris and Community R-6 each had several solid finishes on Thursday in Moberly.

Paris had the top Class 1 boys and girls team in the Moberly Invitational, taking the respective places of fifth of 10 schools with 135 points and fourth of seven schools with 99 points. Community R-6 had several competitors in the junior varsity races along with varsity.

Landen Chapman had the best finish for Paris with a fourth place in the boys 5K with a time of 17:49, and Severino Olivas had the next best time of 20:24 in 34th place. Mairyn Kinnaman finished fifth in the girls 5K with a time of 22:34, and Ava Crain followed in 22nd place with a 24:21. For junior varsity, Edie Wormington was the best for the girls with a fifth-place 13:38 and Case Morgan was best for the boys with a fourth-place 11:50.

Layton Wright was Community R-6’s best varsity finisher with a 52nd-place time of 21:45 in the boys 5K. KaTavyn Wheeler was the best junior varsity boy runner in 31st place with a 27:28, and Gabby Knipfel was the best girls JV runner with a 13th-place time of 30:27.

North Callaway, Paris, MMA among medal winners at North Callaway XC Invite

Several area runners earned some hardware Saturday in Kingdom City.

At the North Callaway Cross Country Invite, Grace Rasmussen placed 11th in the girls 5K to win a varsity medal for the host North Callaway, and Stevie Arcala and Adrienne Egly were 6th and 13th for North Callaway in the middle school girls race. The Paris boys finished second in the varsity team race behind St. Charles, and Missouri Military Academy was fifth in the varsity race.

Rasmussen finished with a time of 23:28, and Arcala and Egly had respective times of 13:41 and 14:26. For the North Callaway boys, Hunter Jansen was 24th with a time of 20:40 in the varsity race, and Trevor Jansen was 20th with a time of 13:14 in the middle school race.

The Paris boys finished with 79 points as a runner-up to St. Charles’ 23 points, and Chapman was also the individual runner-up with a time of 17:14, followed by Olivas in 17th with a 20:08. Kinnaman was the top girls finisher with a fifth-place time of 22:33 and was followed by Kaylee Johnson’s 16th-place 24:30. In junior high, Elizabeth Ross was the best for the girls with a fourth-place 13:37, and Morgan was best for the boys with a fifth-place 11:50.

Missouri Military Academy was fifth out of six with 103 points, with Christopher Song as the best runner in 12th place with a time of 19:43 and Jesus Robinson close behind in 13th with a 19:44. Ethan Gacuchi was the best MMA middle school finisher with a 10th-place 12:28.

For Van-Far, Erin Childs finished 26th in the girls varsity race with a time of 26:28, and Rielynn Grammer was 27th in the girls middle school race with a 16:46 and Tyler Carlyle was 61st in the boys middle school race with a 18:05.
