The Centralia boys were able to give their bench players plenty of minutes Tuesday night.
The Panthers put its home game out of reach of Fayette, leading 42-14 at halftime prior to winning 68-31 for their second win in as many nights.
Head coach Scott Humphrey called Centralia’s 62-58 home victory Monday night against Boonville its “most complete game all year” and were able to have another such performance against Fayette (4-8). The Panthers (7-6) took advantage of Fayette being without two of its starters and took a 31-4 lead in the first half, following a 26-0 run that was broken up around the 6:30 mark in the second quarter.
“The biggest thing we talk about is consistency,” Humphrey said. “We played probably our most complete game last night, and I thought that carried over into tonight. Fayette had some key guys out, so we saw the opportunity to get off to a fast start.
“We shot free throws well last night, and I thought we shot them fairly well tonight. We took care of the ball last night, and I thought we took care of the ball tonight. We played good solid defense and executed in the half court when we needed to so kind of all facets of the game.”
Humphrey said Centralia hasn’t played like that in the first week back from Christmas break as the Panthers had a tough 58-54 overtime loss Jan. 3 at Bowling Green — where they were ahead by three points with three seconds left — and were outscored 26-8 in the second quarter on Jan. 6 in a 71-60 loss at Russellville. Humphrey said the lessons learned from those losses helped the Panthers in their back-to-back wins at home.
Logan Rosenfelder had the hot hand early, which Humphrey said hasn’t happened for one of the team’s best scorers recently. Rosenfelder scored a game-high 19 points and hit four 3-pointers — 15 of those points and all of the 3-pointers in the first quarter. Cullen Bennet followed with 11 points, Boen Zimmerman had eight points and seven rebounds, and Jack Romine finished with eight points.
“Logan struggled the last couple games to shoot the basketball,” Humphrey said. “I was really pleased to see him shoot the ball the way he did.”
Centralia (1-0 CCC) played at Clarence Cannon Conference foe Palmyra (8-3), who received votes in the most recent state Class 3 poll, on Friday before hosting Marceline (0-11) the next Friday.

Community R-6 boys look to put it together after 51-34 win at Chamois
The Community R-6 boys are happy about the win from Monday night at Chamois but thought it could have gone better.
The Trojans won 51-34 to move to 7-7 and were led by 28 points from Gavin Allen.
“We will take the win, but overall we aren't happy with how we played collectively,” head coach Tad Shotten said. “We were sluggish, and again, got undisciplined at times. Give credit to Chamois (3-9) and coach (Glen) Bates. Everytime we felt like we were going to put them away, they would answer or go on a small run of their own. They played hard and ran their stuff consistently and made free throws. We will be working towards putting together more complete games in our upcoming games.”
The boys defeated Madison (1-8, 0-5 CAC) 59-25 on Tuesday night to move to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in conference.

Community R-6 girls run past Madison 63-11 for fifth straight win
The Community R-6 girls felt like they stretched their legs Tuesday night.
The Lady Trojans hosted Central Activities Conference foe Madison, winning 63-11 for their fifth straight victory. Community (12-2, 4-0 CAC) stormed out to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and held Madison (1-10, 0-5 CAC) to no more than six points in each quarter, shutting them out in the fourth quarter.
Head coach Bob Curtis said all 15 players on the roster received playing time and nine of them scored. Sarah Angel led with 18 points and five steals, Kylie Brooks followed with 13 points and seven rebounds, Olivia Kuda had 10 points, and Kayla Jett finished with seven points.
“The press forced a lot of turnovers that led to runouts,” Curtis said. “Offensively, we are getting better, and our defense has given us a chance in about every contest we've had this year.”
The girls and boys travel to New Franklin (10-3 girls, 11-1 boys Class 2 No. 10) on Friday for the second straight week after competing in their tournament last week. The Lady Trojans play at 6 p.m., and the Trojans play after that around 7:30 p.m.
