Local businesses help Mainstreet flourish

Mainstreet Mexico placed 14 planters in the downtown area late last fall as part of a community-wide effort to beautify the square.

Each planter was purchased with money from the Miriam Edmonston Foundation and Mainstreet members first filled them with a wintry arrangement of evergreen and berries. Currently the planters showcase a patriotic display of red, white and blue flowers designed by John Graham, owner of Callaway Fields.

The Edmonston Foundation and Central Bank of Mexico have funded these two plantings, and the Mainstreet Design committee announced its intentions to continue to plant bi-annually in a news release issued on July 30.

Since the flowers cost approximately $1500 per season, the Mainstreet Mexico is accepting donations to keep the planters filled and assistance with watering in order to keep the program alive.

Design committee member Kevin Alferman is overseeing the watering crew. In addition to Kevin, the following businesses have kindly agreed to the demanding task of watering the planters: Audrain County Title Company, Color Me Bleu, Forged of Echoes, Jason’s Top Shelf, Melody’s Quality Jewelry, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Mexico Chamber of Commerce, Old Pharmacy Ceramic Shoppe, Owings, Erdel, Tanzey & Newton P.C., RE/MAX and The Pearl Martini & Wine Bar.
